Cryptopsy - None So Vile

Cryptopsy is a Canadian Technical Death Metal band from Montreal, Quebec. They formed in 1988, with vocalist Dan Greening (dubbed "Lord Worm" for ingesting worms on stage), guitarist Steve Thibault, and drummer Mike Atkin under the name Necrosis. They released 4 Demos before their first live appearance in 1992, their name was changed to Cryptopsy that same year. Mike Atkin leaves the band to follow a more speed/thrash style of metal and is replaced by Flo Mounier. Todd retires shortly after.

This is the last album with Lord Worm as vocals, up until his reunion with Cryptopsy in 2005 for the album 'Once Was Not'. After the album of 2005, Void leaves the band again saying something about related health problems.

For now, this will be the last Nile album I'll post, and the best was saved for last. This is my favourite album by Nile, not as technical as Ithyphallic but it's one their most atmospheric albums so far.

Ithyphallic - Definition: Having an erect penis. So this album might give you good wood.

Okay, so i checked out the origin for the name of this album and it refers to the word phallus, and something that symbolizes a phallus is often phallic. In Ancient Egyptian mythology, Min the god of fertility, was depicted in an Ithyphallic fashion. With a hard-on in one hand and a flail in the other, this god was definitely hard at work.

 

This album starts off with some impressive technical riffs and blends with some 70's rock styles, egyptian inspired. One of my favourites by Nile.

Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines

Seems like they should be from Cairo but instead they're from South Carolina.

Nile does an amazing job blending technical death metal with ancient egyptian tunes, making some incredible atmosphere. The lyrics to 'In Their Darkened Shrines IV: Ruins' are borrowed from H.P. Lovecraft's story of 'The Nameless City'. The story depicts the mad poet Abdul Alhazred dreaming of the Nameless City before he sang his unexplained couplet:

 

"That is not dead which can eternal lie,

And with strange aeons even death may die." 

 

South Park featured Cthulhu Mythos in their new Coon series, including this story. Got a good laugh out of it.

Also, there will be a discog for Nile in the near future, so there's that.

Aeon is a swedish death metal band that I started listening to after someone recommended this album. Savage vocals and fast paced technical riffs make this an addictive album. Since I've found it difficult to find, I'm posting it here so others can enjoy it as much as I do.

Cannibal Corpse - Vile

Vile is one of my favourite albums by Cannibal Corpse, very hypnotic. Released in 1996, the album was originally called 'Created to Kill' and was recorded with founding vocalist Chris Barnes. However, before the album was released, Barnes was kicked out and replaced with Monstrosity's vocalist George Fisher. The album was rerecorded with Fisher and released under the new title 'Vile'.

I'll probably post the discog soon, but it's a work in progress right now, so this is a start.
